Learning Visit to Toronto Canada Housing Organizations
SSA participated in a week long visit in Canada to learn from different housing organizations on how they implement different initiatives towards achieving the right to adequate housing. Considering the fact that Uganda’s housing situation is characterized by inadequate homes – both in terms of quality and quantity despite the fact that the housing, construction and rental sector activities jointly contribute 11 percent (12.135 trillion) of Uganda’s GDP. Also, bearing in mind that affordable housing stimulates and sustains employment, home-based enterprises, tax compliance, health and education outcomes.
This study visit explored key aspects of community housing in Canada, including:

Legal support for tenure security & the right to housing
Governance, finance, and policy mechanisms
Innovative housing solutions in action
