INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS #BREAKTHEBIAS#

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality. Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements; raise awareness about women’s equality; lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female focused charities. The theme for 2022 celebrations is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.

This year SSA joined Action for Development (ACFODE) and other We Effect partners in Uganda to celebrate International Women’s Day. The activity involved conversation circles debating and giving recommendations on three themes including;

  1. Women’s security and safety (duty bearers) which was led by ACFODE
  2. Women, land and housing (Gender focal persons, gender champions, model couples) which was led by SSA
  3. Financial inclusion (SACCOs, MFIs) which was led by UCCFs

Recommendations were made in the different groups to be used to develop an advocacy paper.
